I have always enjoying cooking, dating back to the time when I was a little girl in the kitchen with my grandmother. She was a wonderful cook and I loved spending time with her. Her house always smelled wonderful, filled with the aromas of her scrumptious meals and baked goodies. Her baked goods always came out perfectly – cookies evenly browned and golden, never too dark. She made wonderful cream-puffs that I wish I had gotten the recipe for long ago. I do a good share of baking myself, though I don’t think I’m nearly as good at it as she was. My kids like to help in the kitchen and I think that’s the most important thing. Their favorite things to make are muffins and cupcakes and we use our Kaiser Bakeware La Forme Mini-Muffin Pans constantly.

These Kaiser nonstick baking pans are wonderful. As often as we use them they still look as good as new. That’s because these are quality pans, made of commercial-weight steel that is almost 3 times as thick as most other pans. What’s even better is the two layer nonstick interior that produces wonderful little cakes. Plus they’re so easy to clean.

I can’t imagine trying to get by in the kitchen without a hand or stand mixer, but that’s just what I’ve been doing for the last couple of months. My old mixer broke and I kept forgetting about it until I went to make something that I needed it for, and there I was with a bowl full of ingredients and nothing but a whisk to whip it all together. I did try my kitchen blender a few times, but that got a little bit messy and I couldn’t always fit everything I needed in it. Finally I bought the new Oster Inspire 250 Watt Hand Mixer and my baking projects are so much easier now.

This sturdy kitchen hand mixer can really do it all! It mixes up my doughs and batters so smoothly and easily. I think because it has a 250 watt motor that it’s more powerful than some other hand mixers I looked at. It has 6 speeds for me to choose from and comes with chrome beaters, dough hooks, whisks, plus a drink rod too. It all packs away very neatly in my cabinet – it even has a retractable cord, so I don’t have to wrap the cord around the mixer for storage anymore. Perfect!

It is a rare treat for us when we get to enjoy breakfast or a leisurely brunch in a restaurant. Actually most of the time it is because we are traveling for business and we usually end up having a continental breakfast in the hotel. But occasionally we’re lucky to enjoy a delicious brunch at a nice restaurant and it’s always a wonderful treat. One of my personal favorites is Belgian Waffles topped with strawberry sauce and fresh whipped cream. I guess it’s obvious how much I enjoy them because my family gave me a great Belgian Waffle Maker for my birthday.

There is nothing like the taste of these wonderful, thick waffles fresh off of the hot waffle griddle. We all enjoy them for breakfast, lunch and snacks too. Treating myself to these tasty waffles always makes it feel like a special day. The maker is a sturdy machine made by Black & Decker, with nonstick cooking surfaces making clean-up a breeze. It has an attractive chrome exterior that is easy to wipe clean and cool touch handles so I don’t have to worry about the kids accidentally touching it. Now this Black & Decker Waffle Machine is one of my all-time favorite birthday presents.

I believe my Grandma made the best bean soup in the world. I may be a bit partial because, well, she’s my Grandma! What I liked about her bean soup was that it wasn’t fussy, with a lot of stuff in it… just your basic, simple bean soup. That’s what I like about my crockpot bean soup recipe. Not only is it classic, with lots of ham, garlic, celery, and onion, but it’s simmered for a long, long time, which makes it fantastic.

When I look through crockpot recipes for a good soup to try, I always like to find the recipes that have simple, fresh ingredients. Because the food simmers together for so long, each ingredient has to stand up against the rest, you know, have some “staying power”. Using a crockpot to make any soup, but especially a hearty soup like bean soup, is a real time-saver. Not only that, this bean soup turns out especially flavorful because it’s been simmering slowly all day long. And you didn’t even have to watch the pot!
